Exercising during the winter is cold and tough, but is there a way to overcome difficulty and get out there?
Where there’s a will there’s a way. There are many people who get into the groove of exercising during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons, and actually start to somewhat enjoy it. But as soon as the cold arrives and temperatures drop to below freezing, many of these individuals hit a wall of ice (almost literally). If you want to keep on track and exercise throughout winter, take these helpful tips into consideration. But remember! Ultimately, it is going to be down to you and your will.
Get Pumped for Winter-Based Exercise
Instead of looking outside and getting upset or depressed at the weather, look at this as a new challenge and motivate yourself to exercise outside. Take five to ten minutes and do some low-level aerobic exercises to get your heart pumping and your body warm. That way, when you step outside, your core temperature will be a little higher and make getting used to the cold a lot easier.
Dress the Part. Go Outside Anyway
At the end of the day, it is up to you to just dress for the weather and go. For us in New York, we can’t quite wear our green shorts and orange running-tee. It is important to remember that layers are key in keeping your body from freezing. Plenty of long-sleeve shirts and a pair or two of sweatpants, along with a hat and gloves can make all the difference.
Exercising in the winter has its own set of dangers which can be the source of some painful bruises (e.g. slipping on ice, tripping on a hidden bump or crack.) This is why it is important that you insure yourself. Choosing the right insurance is the best thing that you can do for you and your family.
